Urine protein (24h)
What it measures, and what changes the number.
This test measures protein in urine collected over a full day. Pooling all urine over a day evens out changes caused by activity, posture and hydration. This line reports the protein concentration in the pooled sample.
It is read alongside the total urine volume for the same collection, since concentration multiplied by volume gives total daily protein excretion, which is often printed as a separate line. Creatinine and creatinine clearance from the same collection help check completeness and describe kidney filtration.
The collection usually starts after discarding the first morning void and includes every void through the next morning. Missed voids or an incorrect time window change the result, and some labs ask for the container to be kept cool. Laboratory methods differ in how they detect various proteins. Reports may list it as Proteínas (24 horas).
