Anti-tTG IgA
What it measures, and what changes the number.
Anti-tTG IgA measures IgA class antibodies against tissue transglutaminase, an enzyme found in the lining of the gut. It is the main blood test used when screening for celiac disease.
It is typically ordered with total IgA, because a person with low IgA overall may not make detectable IgA antibodies, which would affect how this result is read. Other celiac antibody tests may be added in that situation.
The antibodies depend on gluten being present in the diet around the time of the test, so the result reflects recent eating patterns. Assays differ in units and cut offs between manufacturers, so results from different labs are not directly comparable. Labs may print it as Transglutaminasa anticossos IgA.
